Inspired: How To Create Products Customers Love

Marty Cagan

Popular Highlights

  1. 1. What alternatives are out there now? (competitive landscape) Why are we best suited to pursue this? (our differentiator) Why now? (market window) How will we get this product to market? (go-to-market strategy) What factors are critical to success? (solution requirements) Given the above, what’s the recommendation? (go or no-go)
  2. 2. The product manager has two key responsibilities: assessing product opportunities, and defining the product to be built.
  3. 3. For virtually all product decisions, the key is to properly frame the decision to be made, and to first get everyone on the same page in terms of: What problem exactly are you trying to solve? Who exactly are you trying to solve this problem for—which persona? What are the goals you are trying to satisfy with this product? What is the relative priority of each goal?
  4. 4.  The product manager is responsible for defining—in detail—the product to be built, and validating that product with real customers and users. The product marketing person is responsible for telling the world about that product, including positioning, messaging and pricing, managing the product launch, providing tools for the sales channel to market and sell the product, and for leading key programs such as online marketing and influencer marketing programs.

    5. Winning products come from the deep understanding of the user’s needs combined with an equally deep understanding of what’s just now possible.

Popular Highlights
1.     By far the best real-time predictor of economic activity is the yield curve.
2.     Let us be very clear. Japan is about to unleash the most significant currency       war the world has ever seen.
3.    Inflation will eat away at savings, government bonds will be destroyed as a         supposedly safe asset class, and assets that benefit from inflation and money       printing will do well.
4.   Central bankers hope that unconventional policies will do the trick. If     everything goes as planned, inflation will quietly eat away at debt, stock markets will go up, house prices will go up, everyone will feel wealthier and spend the newfound wealth, banks will earn lots of money and become solvent, and government debts will shrink as taxes rise and deficits evaporate. And after all is well again, central banks can go back to the good old days of conventional policies. There is no guarantee that will happen, but that’s the game plan.
5.      Bernanke understands that the world has far too much debt that it can’t pay back. Sadly, debt can go away via only: (1) defaults (and there are so many ways to default without having to actually use the word!), (2) paying down debt through economic growth, or (3) eroding the burden of debt through inflation or currency devaluations.

Popular Highlights
  1. Value innovation occurs only when companies align innovation with utility, price, and cost positions.
  2. Value innovation is the cornerstone of blue ocean strategy. We call it value innovation because instead of focusing on beating the competition, you focus on making the competition irrelevant by creating a leap in value for buyers and your company, thereby opening up new and uncontested market space.
  3. The only way to beat the competition is to stop trying to beat the competition.
  4. those that seek to create blue oceans pursue differentiation and low cost simultaneously.
  5. A strategic move is the set of managerial actions and decisions involved in making a major market-creating business offering.

Love is about being vulnerable to others. Do you have the #courage to be #vulnerable in the way you live your #life # love #parents #lead?

Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead

Popular Highlights

1      1. Vulnerability is about sharing our feelings and our experiences with people who have           earned the right to hear them.
  1. Connection is why we’re here. We are hardwired to connect with others, it’s what gives purpose and meaning to our lives, and without it there is suffering.
  2. Vulnerability is the birthplace of love, belonging, joy, courage, empathy, and creativity. It is the source of hope, empathy, accountability, and authenticity. If we want greater clarity in our purpose or deeper and more meaningful spiritual lives, vulnerability is the path.
  3. What we know matters, but who we are matters more. Being rather than knowing requires showing up and letting ourselves be seen. It requires us to dare greatly, to be vulnerable.
  4. Vulnerability is the core, the heart, the center, of meaningful human experiences.

A More Beautiful Question: The Power of Inquiry to Spark Breakthrough Ideas

By Warren Berger

Popular Highlights

  1. A beautiful question is an ambitious yet actionable question that can begin to shift the way we perceive or think about something—and that might serve as a catalyst to bring about change.
  2. Good questioners tend to be aware of, and quite comfortable with, their own ignorance
  3. One of the many interesting and appealing things about questioning is that it often has an inverse relationship to expertise—such that, within their own subject areas, experts are apt to be poor questioners. Frank Lloyd Wright put it well when he remarked that an expert is someone who has “stopped thinking because he ‘knows.’”
  4. The best innovators are able to live with not having the answer right away because they’re focused on just trying to get to the next question.
  5. One of the telltale signs of an innovative questioner: a refusal to accept the existing reality.

Popular Highlights

  1. “I consider my ability to arouse enthusiasm among my people,” said Schwab, “the greatest asset I possess, and the way to develop the best that is in a person is by appreciation and encouragement.
  2. Criticism is futile because it puts a person on the defensive and usually makes him strive to justify himself. Criticism is dangerous, because it wounds a person’s precious pride, hurts his sense of importance, and arouses resentment.
  3. You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you.
  4. Dr. Dewey said that the deepest urge in human nature is “the desire to be important.”
  5. When dealing with people, let us remember we are not dealing with creatures of logic. We are dealing with creatures of emotion, creatures bristling with prejudices and motivated by pride and vanity.
